🏔️ The Pinnacle of High-Altitude Pinot Noir 🏔️
🍷 An Artisanal Masterpiece of Low-Intervention Winemaking 🍷

Region: Whitlands High Plateau, Victoria
Variety: Pinot Noir

About the Wine
In 1998, David & Sharon Burder planted 8 hectares of Chardonnay (clones I10V1 & 76), 5 hectares of Pinot Noir (clones 114, 115 & MV6—the most prized selections in Burgundy Grand Crus), 2 hectares of Pinot Gris, and 1 hectare of Pinot Meunier. Perched at 870 meters above sea level, it stands as one of the highest vineyard sites in all of Australia. In 2008, their daughter and current proprietor, Clare Burder, founded Eminence Wines.

Whitlands High Plateau sits just above the southern tip of Victoria’s King Valley. Typically situated between 700 and 800 meters in elevation, this extreme altitude creates pronounced diurnal temperature shifts, allowing the fruit to ripen at a slow, measured pace. This extended hang time allows optimal phenolic development while preserving a crystalline, Alpine-like natural acidity. Beyond elevation, the plateau is carpeted with deep, fertile, free-draining red basalt volcanic soils, imparting distinct mineral tension and delicate spice notes to the Pinot Noir. By 2019, notable producers such as Domaine Chandon and Brown Brothers had also recognized the site's immense potential, cultivating grapes and crafting exceptional wines from this high-altitude haven.

Vinification
Crafted exclusively from MV6 clone Pinot Noir sourced from meticulously tended organic estate parcels. The fruit was destemmed and gently crushed before undergoing a 17-day cold soak, followed by fermentation in open-top vats with twice-daily manual punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine aged on its fine lees in seasoned French oak barrels for 13 months. Bottled without fining or filtration, and with zero added sulfur dioxide, total annual production is strictly limited to approximately 1,680 bottles.

Tasting Notes
A benchmark expression of the cold-climate Whitlands High Plateau terroir. Driven by a vibrant core of red fruit—red cherries, pomegranate, and wild raspberries—layered with an intriguing hint of graphite minerality and complex, fragrant fresh florals. Finely etched tannins deliver a supple, seamless mouthfeel, while the overall profile remains poised, pure, and exquisitely balanced, demonstrating the pinpoint precision and depth achievable in cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Food Pairing
Roast duck, wild mushroom risotto, or pan-seared salmon.
