Despite its boutique size, this hidden gem of Australian wine country consistently produces wines of exceptional caliber.

Domenica is a boutique estate located in Beechworth, founded by winemaker Peter Graham. The estate is renowned for its cool, high-altitude climate, granite slopes, and low-intervention winemaking philosophy. The vineyard was initially planted in 1996 as a joint venture between Peter and Rhône legend Michel Chapoutier, with a prime focus on Shiraz and Nebbiolo. In 2012, Peter assumed sole ownership and management of the estate and vineyards, marking the official establishment of Domenica.

Vinification
Grapes were hand-harvested and fermented in concrete vats for three weeks. Approximately 12% underwent whole-bunch fermentation, while the remainder was destemmed as whole, uncrushed berries. Gentle pump-overs were carried out during fermentation to preserve delicate varietal nuances and prevent over-extraction, followed by manual punch-downs toward the end of fermentation to build natural phenolic depth and structure. The wine then matured for 14 months in a combination of new and seasoned oak casks.

Tasting Notes
A contemplative Shiraz crafted to be savored slowly. Deep, concentrated flavors of dark plum and black cherry unfold alongside warm aromas of cracked black pepper, dark chocolate, anise, and baking spices. Driven by bright acidity and firm yet finely etched tannins, it delivers an elegant cool-climate precision that carries seamlessly through the finish. The seamless harmony between refined spice nuances and volcanic soil character earned an outstanding 97-point score from James Suckling, recognition as one of Beechworth's Top 10 classic Shiraz expressions, and acclaim from Vinous as "a match made in heaven."

Food Pairing
Roast chicken, ribeye steak, braised meats, or slow-cooked lamb shoulder.

Accolades & Scores
2025 James Suckling – 95 points ('23)
2025 James Halliday – 94 points ('23)
2024 James Suckling – 97 points ('22)
2023 James Suckling – 96 points ('21)
