White kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a legume from the genus Phaseolus, named for its kidney-like shape. In 1971, research discovered that white kidney beans contain a large amount of a special protein — α-amylase inhibitor, which is the key active component in white kidney bean extracts. Among approximately 27,000 species of beans, Phaseolus vulgaris contains the highest concentration of α-amylase inhibitors. Although legumes are rich in amino acids and beneficial compounds, raw beans also contain anti-nutrients and plant toxins. This patented white kidney bean extract - Inhibean selects a single specific Italian variety — Lamon white kidney bean — and uses a patented manufacturing process with strict screening to remove anti-nutritional substances. This process achieves an α-amylase inhibitor to plant lectin ratio greater than 35.
