Glacial Clay Powder
Glacial clay is a natural mineral-rich clay sourced from New Zealand. It lies beneath layers of glaciers, quartz rocks, and mica schist, and was formed through geological shifts and climatic changes over millions of years. This unique natural substance was created by the collision, friction, and sedimentation caused by glacial movement. The origins of glacial clay date back approximately 3 million years, when volcanic ash from the Banks Peninsula on New Zealand’s South Island settled into a freshwater glacial lake at the base of the Southern Alps. Over time, these deposits gradually transformed into glacial clay.
Glacial clay is a type of Nontronite, a mineral-rich green clay. Its sediment layers average about 60 meters deep—much thicker than the 1 to 3-meter deposits found in most other parts of the world. In other regions, the upper layers are often contaminated with sand, leading to inconsistent purity and compromised quality. In contrast, New Zealand’s glacial clay powder boasts an exceptionally high purity level of up to 91%, and it contains no chemical additives. This remarkable purity, shaped by thousands of years of geological evolution, makes glacial clay a truly rare and valuable natural resource.
