Characteristic
Lavandin is a hybrid of true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia), cultivated at altitudes between 300 and 600 meters. It holds high economic value and is currently the most widely cultivated type of lavender.
Lavandin has a long history of cultivation, dating back to the early 20th century in France, and plays an important role in French agriculture. In addition to the well-known Lavandin Grosso, there are three other main varieties: Lavandin Abrialis, Lavandin Sumian, and Lavandin Super. France produces approximately 1,400 tons of Lavandin each year, with our partner farm contributing 420 tons—around 30% of the total output.
Compared to true lavender essential oil, Lavandin Grosso contains 6–8.5% more camphor in its chemical composition.
Common Lavandin varieties:
Lavandin Abrialis – similar to spike lavender in aroma
Lavandin Super – closer in scent and composition to true lavender
Lavandin Grosso – a balanced profile between the two parent species
Lavandin Sumian – similar in aroma to Abrialis
