Tetra Pak, the food processing and packaging solutions company, said it expects to produce 300 million packages in Myanmar by 2020.

“Myanmar has a young and growing population and its GDP has continued to grow around 6-8 percent, which is a good indication of higher consumer spending power. With the current low penetration of Ready-to-Drink Dairy and Juice categories, Myanmar represents a strong opportunity for Tetra Pak [to expand],” said Mr Tang Chee Choy, Key Account Director from Tetra Pak (Thailand) Ltd’s Myanmar Representative Office.

“Our priority is to deploy integrated processing and packaging solutions that bring nutritious products such as Soya, Dairy and Juice to the Myanmar people. Consumption of packaged liquid food is very low in Myanmar compared to surrounding ASEAN countries so we are confident that Myanmar will have high growth for packaged liquid food in the coming years,” he added. 

Tetra Pak is one of three companies in the Tetra Laval Group – a private group headquartered in Sweden. Tetra Pak first entered Myanmar in 2013. The company established its office in Yangon in 2016 to ensure the efficiency of the commercial operations for its first customer which will launch their UHT products in Myanmar by the end of 2017.

In May, Indonesian dairy and food producer PT So Good Food Indonesia exported Tetra Pak packaged milk to Myanmar for the first time.

So Good Food Indonesia is a subsidiary of Singapore-listed agriculture and dairy firm Japfa, which was founded by Indonesian tycoon Ferry Santosa.

The first export batch of the Real Good liquid milk brand, worth $15,000, comprised a total of 27,000 liters in 180,000 small Tetra Pac sachets. It was delivered in April and the next ones will be dispatched monthly.
