Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose(CMC), which is obtained by chemical modification of natural cellulose, is a water-soluble cellulose ether. CMC is characterized by odourless, tasteless, and non-toxic with white to off-white powder or granule. It can dissoive in water easily and transfer into colloidal solution, and cannot dissolve in ethanol, etheracetone or other organic solvents. CMC has thickening properties that can be used as water retaining agent, adhesive, emulsifier, and disintegrator. CMC is the carrier of biological products.
