Latest report on agricultural, forestry and fishery markets dated March 31 of Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Trade and Industry) shows that Eu 27 imported 6.94 millions of tons of wooden furniture worth 18.73 billion Euro (US$ 22.1 billion), an increase of 0.2% in quantity and a decline of value compared to that of 2021 according to data released by Eurostat.

Eu 27 imports the largest proportion of wooden furniture from Poland and China, 26.2% from Poland and 11.8% from China of all markets.

Vietnam has become the 13th largest wooden furniture supplier for Eu 27, accounting for 1.9% in 2020 of total imports of Eu 27 from all markets, a relatively low figure in comparison to import demand in such as fastidious market. Therefore, there are still many opportunities for Vietnam to boost the export of wooden furniture to EU 27.

“Especially, in the context of Covid-19 pandemic which disrupts the global supply, the Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will be a driving force for Vietnam to boost export of wooden furniture to Eu 27 in the coming time”, commented by Agency of Foreign Trade.

Living room and dining room furniture products (code HS 940360) remained key products imported by EU 27 in 2020 with 51% of imports of EU 27.

At present, Poland, China, Italy, Germany and Litva are key suppliers of dining and living room furniture for Eu 27.

Amongst of wooden furniture products imported from Vietnam in 2020, living and dining room furniture products (code HS 940630) takes the largest proportion with 69,240 tons worth 205.76 million Euro or US$ 242.8 million, a decline of 6.2% in quality and 4% in value as of 2019.

However, the total amount of living and dining room wooden furniture imported by EU 27 from Vietnam only accounts for 1% followed by wooden framed chairs, bedroom furniture, office furniture and kitchen furniture.
