Market Information

Agriculture plays a key role in Cambodia's economy. It contributed about 22 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023. Agriculture remains largely dominated by rice (70%), the country's most important export commodity and major crop. This is followed by subsidiary and industrial crops (such as sugar cane) (20%), rubber plantations (7%), and permanent crops (such as cashew) (4%), rendering the country reliant on rice. In 2023, Cambodia exported nearly 8.45 million tons of agricultural products (US$4.3 billion, or about 155.2 billion baht) to about 75 countries and regions, with China, Vietnam, and Thailand among the main markets.

The Cambodia agricultural machinery market is projected to register a CAGR of 4.1% during the forecast period. At the same time, it has an ambition to modernize Cambodia's agricultural sector to be more competitive, environmentally resilient, and sustainable. The policies of the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting the use of machinery in large- and small-scale farms in order to increase the productivity of the crop. Farm mechanization helps to produce higher quality agricultural harvests and even boosts the production of the market in the coming years.
