Software-defined Augmented Robot Joint
Category: Smart Manufacturing
Exhibitor: INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE (ITRI)
Booth No: I616
Characteristic
Current commercially available robotic arms are limited by size restrictions in the market.
Our Software-defined Augmented Robot Joint, or SARJ, adopts a modular stacking design by which users can quickly construct custom multi-joint robotic modules that meet production line requirements according to their own needs. No additional external force sensing modules are required, and the overall weight is reduced by 40% compared to robots of the same level. With the support of AI, the joint modules have sensory capabilities and a sense of touch similar to humans. Joint weight and durability have both increased by more than 20%, improving the industrial application aspects.
This technology has been transferred to precision machinery manufacturers and is currently being used on production lines. The challenge now is to develop robotic joint modules that can lift even greater weight in kilograms.
