Drinks International Brands Report 2024 (Pisco)

Peruvian brand Barsol remains bartenders’ favourite pisco. Under the guidance of Diego Loret de Mola, who founded the brand in 2001, Barsol has topped the bestselling ranking for the past eight years – ever since pisco started being included in the Drinks International report. Of the polled bars, almost half stocked three or more pisco brands and Barsol was the number one choice in almost a third of them.

Within our pool of bars there are four from Peru and one from Chile, yet the bestselling list consists of a 50/50 split when it comes to Peruvian and Chilean pisco brands. Despite the dominance of Barsol internationally, many bars want to stock a pisco from both countries, which is re­flected in our list – and it’s Juan Torres Master Distillers’ El Gobernador which is the bestselling pisco from Chile.

The origin of pisco will forever be contested by the two nations, yet when it comes to the Pisco Sour – number 12 in the Cocktail Report’s bestselling classic cocktails – the Peruvian style is the globally recognised serve. What’s potentially more alarming from a Chilean perspective is that the top four brands in the trending list this year are made in Peru, suggesting the momentum for pisco in the world’s best bars lies with the Peruvians.

The Annual Brands Report results are the culmination of a survey of 100 bars from around the world which have been nominated or won international awards. The report offers a picture of the buying habits of the world’s best bars – not only which brands sell best, but also what’s trending to indicate the brands that are hot right now.
