At the foot of Hunawihr's famous fortified church, the Mittnacht family has made wine for three generations. In 2019 the two brothers went their separate ways, and Christophe founded Domaine Christophe Mittnacht, Terres d'Étoiles. Carrying on the family's eco-friendly approach, he works precisely with neutral oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, seeking terroir expression and balance. His wines show the purity, finesse and floral character of Alsace whites.<br/><br/>The "Esprit Libre" (Free Spirit) Pinot Noir grows out of the winemaker's wish to keep the wine as natural as possible. Nothing is added during winemaking. Only a small dose of sulphites goes in the day before bottling, so every step needs precise handling and close monitoring. The wine is bright ruby red, unfiltered and only clarified. The nose is rich and inviting, with red and black fruit such as morello cherry and blackcurrant. On the palate it is balanced, with fine, well-integrated tannins and the freshness typical of Alsace. Serve at room temperature, or give it a short decant to fully open up its aromas and layers.
