Characteristic
Soft Maple is a different species from Hard Maple, but no less important. In fact, it has a similar grain pattern although it is
roughly 25% softer. This specie is best suited for staining and enamel finishes. It works extremely well and produces a great
finish.
Colour: Ranges from pale to almost white in the Sapwood. Heartwood is grey to pale reddish brown with characteristic brown
streaks.
Physical properties: Quite stable. Softer than Hard Maple but not as impact-resistant. Carves well.
Produced thicknesses: 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4.
Applications: Furniture making (often stained or painted), flooring, mouldings, architectural millwork, turnings, etc.
