Bann Shane Tea, located in the traditional Hani ethnic region, lies between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above sea level. Historically, it was one of the tea gardens supplying tribute tea during the Ming Dynasty. In the seventh year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty, the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, Ertai, established a tea factory to produce Pu-erh tea for tribute purposes. This led to a surge in Pu-erh tea's popularity in the capital. At the same time, the Pu family tea house in Pu'er City established its own tea gardens in Banshan. The high-quality tea produced there was selected by the Pu'er Prefecture as tribute tea to be presented to the court. According to legend, the increasing demand for tea led to excessive exploitation of the Banshan tea farmers by the authorities. This exploitation resulted in a rebellion among the farmers, which was eventually suppressed by the Qing government. The tea farmers were forced to flee, and the tea trees were extensively damaged. It was not until modern times that the discovery of a "Tea King Tree" in the Banshan ancient tea garden was made. On April 23, 1977, a survey team from Pu'er County discovered an ancient cultivated tea tree, which stood 8 meters tall with a circumference of 215 cm and a diameter of 68.5 cm. Experts estimate that it is over 1,000 years old. In the Song Dynasty, Li Shi recorded in the book "Continuation of the Bo Chang Record": "It is said that in the original forest at the intersection of Li Ming, Pu Yi, and Meng Xian in Yunnan's Pu'er, there is a Tea God Tree so large that three people are needed to embrace it. A sacrificial altar was built beside the Tea God Tree by the ancestors. The practice of worshiping it began at an unknown time and by an unknown ethnic group.
