Located in Nankan, Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, the distillery not only boasts a rich historical background and excellent geographical environment but also carries the story of the ancient place name “Maoweiki.” This name, originating from the Japanese colonial period, was inspired by the terrain resembling the curled tail of a lazy cat. We hope to combine the uniqueness of this land with our whiskey-making craftsmanship to create a Taiwanese-style craft whiskey. Maoweiki Distillery is not only about our dedication to whiskey but also our passion for innovation and art. This time, we are honored to collaborate with Orion, an illustrator based in Japan, to launch a series of limited-edition whiskeys themed around Taiwan’s native species. Since embarking on his creative journey, Orion has been deeply inspired by Japanese art while also harboring a love for Taiwan’s ecology. His works are filled with reverence for nature and a celebration of life, which aligns perfectly with the philosophy of Maoweiki Distillery. In this collaboration, Orion chose Taiwan’s native animals and water resources as his creative inspiration. Taiwan boasts rich biodiversity, with many species unique to the world. These rare animals, such as the Taiwan leopard cat, sambar deer, and black bear, are the protagonists in Orion’s works. These animals not only represent the richness of Taiwan’s ecosystem but also symbolize the resilience and beauty of life. Additionally, water is a crucial element in his creations. Water symbolizes the source of life, flowing with the abundance of the land, just as whiskey quietly matures in barrels, absorbing the essence of time and environment, ultimately becoming a rich and flavorful drink. We aim not only to combine art and whiskey but also to raise awareness and appreciation for Taiwan’s natural environment through these whiskey editions.
