Characteristic
**Grape Varieties:** 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc

There’s an interesting background regarding the wine and the vineyard. The vineyard has been owned by the Marin family since 1961. By the late 1960s, the children inherited the vineyard from their parents, with Louis Marin and his two sisters, Élisabeth and Suzanne, managing it. As they approached retirement, no one in the family was able to continue managing the estate, so they decided to sell the property in 2019. Romik Arconian became a potential buyer. He was born in the UK but completed his business degree in Paris and decided to stay, establishing a wine distribution company, which he sold in 2017. He began searching for vineyards to purchase and discovered Canon Chaigneau. Though it was beyond his budget, he gathered some investors. However, it proved challenging as one or two investors backed out during Covid, but ultimately, the original owners agreed to remain as minority shareholders and consented to the sale.

**Terroir:**
The estate still requires some modernization, but Romik firmly believes in traditional winemaking methods that reflect the characteristics of the vineyard's terroir. The wines produced are fresh, fruit-forward, and have limited oak aging potential but significant aging capacity. Notably, the renowned cellar master Thierry Garnaud from Château Cheval Blanc has also been making wine at Canon Chaigneau since 1995. He crafted many legendary vintages at Cheval Blanc from 1988 to 2018, including the iconic 1990 vintage, which scored a perfect 100 points, as well as 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2015, and 2016. He now produces wine at Canon Chaigneau with the same passion and approach he applied at Cheval Blanc, aging it in oak barrels for 12-14 months.

**Wine Quality:**
This medium-bodied wine is ripe and smooth, with a luscious texture. Aromas of black cherry, black plum, licorice, and chocolate fill the nose and palate, while the finish reveals more mature fruit and cocoa notes. It is soft, silky, and refreshingly fruity, making it very easy to drink.

**Food Pairing:** Thick-cut roast ribeye, spiced lamb chops, filet mignon with creamy baby vegetables.
