How does compostable degradable plastic degrade? Difference between biodegradable plastic and compostable degradable plastic?
After the plastic ban started, many of my friends had some questions about compostable degradable plastics and the difference between biodegradable plastics and compostable degradable plastics. How does compostable degradable plastic degrade?
Can compostable degradable plastics be composted and degraded at home or degraded on their own in a natural environment?
Many of you will consider biodegradation under industrial composting conditions as biodegradable in the natural environment. But it is not so oh. Compostable plastics refer to plastics in composting conditions, through the role of microorganisms, can be converted into carbon dioxide, water, and its elements contained in mineralized inorganic salts, as well as new biomass in a certain period of time, and the final formation of the compost heavy metal content, toxicity tests, residual debris, etc. should be in line with the provisions of the relevant standards. Compostable plastics can be further divided into industrial composting and garden composting, and the compostable plastics on the market now basically belong to biodegradable plastics under industrial composting conditions.
Definition of biodegradable
The term biodegradable refers to any material that can be broken down by microorganisms (such as bacteria and fungi) and assimilated into the natural environment. Biodegradation is a naturally occurring process; when an object is lowered, its original composition is changed into simple components such as biomass, carbon dioxide, and water. This process can occur with or without oxygen, but in the presence of oxygen, it takes less time for people - just like a pile of leaves in your yard to decompose over the course of a season.
Biodegradation can take anywhere from a few days (for vegetable waste) to 500 or more days (for plastic bags).
The Difference Between Biodegradable and Compostable Plastics
What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable plastics? Biodegradable plastics are a class of plastics whose degradation is caused by the action of microorganisms such as bacteria, molds (fungi), and algae. Compostable plastics are plastic bags that decompose into carbon dioxide, water, and mineralized inorganic salts of the elements they contain, as well as new organisms, through the action of microorganisms (bacteria, molds, etc.) under composting conditions within a certain period of time.
Biodegradable plastic refers to some plastics that can be decomposed into carbon dioxide and water in the natural environment, composting conditions, soil conditions, or high solid state, etc. The latter, in addition to the material requirements to become carbon dioxide and water, also requires that the plastic can be turned into small pieces less than 2cm in size during the composting cycle, and requires that the compost produced by composting the heavy metal content of compost to meet the standards of various countries, and that composting with traditional The compost will not have an adverse effect on the growth of plants compared to traditional compost.
