The year 2007 is a break-though for Taiwan's biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. A statue to encourage development of the biotech and pharmaceutical industry was passed in June, offering incentives to boost one of the nation's most promising sectors. The statue, put into effect in July 2007 and to expire in the end of 2021, includes incentives and improvement over four areas: business tax, professional manpower recruitment, product review efficiency and industry upgrade.

Addressing the opening ceremony of Bio Taiwan 2007, Premier Chang of the Executive Yuan noted that the government will invest more than 600 million USD along with 1 billion USD from private venture investment to promote the development of biotech industry, hoping to create another "trillion industry" following the triumph of the country's IT industry.
