FCS, which is about to enter its 50th year, specializes in plastic injection molding, and still has maintained prosperous development to date. As the sector watch before the CHINAPLAS 2023, AdsaleCPRJ.com interviewed Jerry Wang, the vice chairman of FCS Group and the chairman of FCS (Ningbo) Machinery Manufacture.

AdsaleCPRJ.com: What is your opinion on the market development in 2023? What are the major technical trends?
Jerry Wang: Judging from the market development in 2022, the auto parts industry is undoubtedly outstanding, especially the market growth driven by new energy vehicles, which is the most obvious, thus leading the issues of low carbon, environmental protection and sustainable development spreading to various major industries. We have also observed the technology development trends of the three major injection industries, namely "circular economy", "energy efficiency" and "digitization" :
1. Circular economy as the main axis: It emphasizes the reuse of recycled materials. However, due to the viscosity difference among batches of raw materials after re-granulation, which results in unstable production, the molding control technology of re-granulation for recycled materials becomes an important key factor.
Europe recently proposed a plastic treaty, requiring that by 2025, all plastic packaging in Europe must contain 30% recycled materials and realize 100% recycling capacity. I believe that not only in Europe, for the recycling and reuse of plastics, it will be a major development trend and challenge for the global plastic packaging industry, and even for the overall plastic industry.
2. Europe's energy crisis caused by the Russo-Ukrainian War highlights the importance of issues on energy management and energy efficiency, that is, the management of energy consumption in the production process. And "integration of multi-process" such as in-mold decoration, in-mold electronic packaging, on-line mixing (direct composite injection molding), and multi-component injection molding technology (two-component injection molding machine, three-component injection molding machine), may eliminate additional manufacturing steps and streamline the production process, not only improving the yield rate of production, but also effectively reducing energy consumption in the production process and reducing carbon emissions.
3. The application of digital system (i.e., the application of intelligent manufacturing software of production equipment, such as in-mold pressure, water current temperature and sensing technology of filling position) promotes more efficient energy-saving management.
Therefore, apart from the energy saving of the power source of the machinery itself, the focus of energy efficiency of injection molding has now shifted to the energy saving in the molding process, especially the improvement of the temperature control technology of the machinery, molds and peripheral equipment. Only with the application of digital control technology could the manufacturing facilities purchased by the clients better support the agenda of circular economy and energy efficiency.
AdsaleCPRJ.com: What kinds of products will FCS display in CHINAPLAS this year? What are the features of these products? What industries will find these products useful? What benefits will the products bring to the clients?
Jerry Wang: FCS is bringing its new molding machines to Shenzhen showground with the key to smart manufacturing.
The new model SA-h/p Series will be shown for food packaging and medical care, and its “High-Speed”, “High-Precision”, ”High-Cost performance ratio” make it the best answer for injection molding industry. FCS is also displaying Multi Two-Component injection technology for Energy-Saving, High speed, and Silicone molding, bringing the muti-component industries more applications and choices. Furthermore, FCS All-electric injection molding series CT-e and CT-R (Two-component injection molding) will not absent from this Chinaplas.
FCS all display machines are equipped “iMF 4.0 Intelligent ManuFactory System” which can be mounted on the injection molding machines and use intelligent sensing modules to improve product yield and reduce production waste.
PET Blood Collection Tubes Molding System:SA-h PET series
The High-Speed & Thin-Wall Injection Molding Machine, SA-h/p Series are developed for food packaging and medical care, and the SA-290h PET displaying in this Chinaplas is the special model for Blood Collection Tubes. The SA-290h will cooperate with YUS’ mold and Tongsheng’s automation, to produce 32 cavities Blood Collection Tubes on site with the cycle time of 7 seconds.
Energy-Saving Two-Component injection Molding System: FB-R Series
The FB-R series rotary table two-component injection molding machine, crafted by FCS, has garnered widespread admiration from customers worldwide and is among the company's most sought-after models. Notably, it should be featured in Shenzhen. This exceptional apparatus can be equipped with a cutting-edge servo motor that deftly regulates turntable rotation, resulting in a remarkable 50% decrease in rotation time. What's more, the dual-servo power system is astoundingly efficient and eco-friendly, adhering to the national first-level energy-saving standards of ≦0.40kW h/kg. The patented turntable positioning fixture ensures faultless placement, thereby extending the mold's longevity. The injection component can be paired with a multitude of models, catering to the gamut of small to large-scale injection molding needs for diverse products.
At this exhibition, the FB-230R model will showcase the dual-material injection technology of silicone and PC. The on-site demonstration will feature a pen holder with a business card holder made from this material combination, eliminating the need for a separate injection molding process for two colors. This process improves production efficiency, reduces labor costs and eliminates the need for mold removal during injection molding. Additionally, this method prevents secondary shrinkage which is typical in traditional color matching processes, resulting in more stable product dimensions and a more attractive appearance.

All-Electric Two-Component injection Molding System: CT-R series
FCS recently launched the CT-R series all-electric two-component injection molding machine, which is ideal for high-precision and high-cleanliness multi-color molding. The injection part has multiple independent material tube groups, enabling simultaneous injection and greatly reducing the molding cycle. The electric turntable is fast and stable, with a speed increase of 30%-50% and an accuracy of 0.005°. The injection seat features a wire rail that reduces feeding back pressure to almost 0, effectively reducing glue overflow from the nozzle or hot runner. The machine's European top-level servo drive system and controller allow for injection speeds up to 200 mm/sec, with an injection control accuracy of up to 0.01 mm. The new 21.5-inch touchscreen enables intelligent manufacturing capabilities.
During this event, the CT-280R model will demonstrate the injection molding of two-component 16+16 cavity of cryovial tubes, using a fully automatic take-out laser marking production system with a 12-second molding cycle. The combination of two-component electric technology and intelligent automation achieves clean, unmanned, and high-efficiency production for medical applications, promoting the development of high-quality, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly products.
All-Electric IMM with In Mold Labeling Molding System: CT-e Series
The CT-e series all-electric injection molding machine is the ideal solution for precision plastic parts and in-mold labeling. With an injection speed of up to 300 mm/sec and a repeat accuracy of 0.01 mm, the machine offers faster and more accurate mold adjustments through closed-loop control. It is also unaffected by oil pollution and temperature changes, ensuring high process stability while contributing to environmental protection through the integration of plastic materials and labels.
During this event, FCS will showcase the CT-450e model with a 12-cavity yogurt cup in-mold labeling machine developed by Gech Automation, enabling unmanned production in a 40-square-meter area with a quick 5-second production cycle.
Thin-Wall/High-Speed/Two-color/IML Turnkey Solution:SA-h Series (at Brosen booth 7B41)
Furthermore, FCS has partnered with BROSEN to launch a special edition of SA-380h thin-wall packaging two-component high-speed molding system. The imported materials and advanced equipment used in BROSEN's molds offer precision control up to 0.0002 mm. The innovative special edition machine combines the advantages of the SA-h model (injection speed of 445 mm/sec) with FCS's two-component molding technology and BROSEN's research and development capabilities, adding a top-side injection system to the high-speed injection molding machine to form a two-component high-speed molding machine. The resulting two-component high-speed injection molding process achieves the lid spoon integration of a 12+12 cavity two-component lid and a spoon with a molding cycle of just 5 seconds. The machine is also equipped with Gech Automation fully automatic in-mold labeling and lid-spoon assembly system, significantly improving production efficiency, and lowering equipment and factory investment costs to meet various production needs of customers.
AdsaleCPRJ.com: What major factors will affect the development of FCS in the next few years?
Jerry Wang: FCS mainly produces special injection molding machines, especially the two-component injection molding machine, which is our featured product (replacing the imported products). In recent years, along with the rapid development of new-energy vehicles, the demand for two-component injection molding machine has increased, promoting the growth of corporate performance. The sales of auto parts has accounted for 60% to 70%. Driven by the rapid development of new-energy vehicles in 2022, the performance of FCS Group still increased by 7% against the trend, reaching USD 151 million. However, the excessive concentration of performance in the auto parts industry exposes certain risks. Therefore, in the future, we will develop new markets (medical treatment and packaging industry) with new product lines (high-speed machines and all-electric machines) and new teams, so as to seek new growth points and disperse market risks.
In addition, the plant in FCS Hangzhou Bay New Zone will be completed soon and is expected to be officially in operation in May 2023. We plan to produce 2,000 special injection molding machines annually, mainly g large two-platen injection molding machines with clamping force of more than 500 tons, large two-component injection molding machines, large horizontal two-platen and two-component injection molding machines and other special injection molding machines. It is estimated that the annual output of this new plant in Hangzhou Bay will be approximately USD 116 million to USD 174 million. Combining the plant in Jiangbei and the plant in Hangzhou Bay New Zone, FCS Ningbo set its future operation target at USD 218 million to USD 261 million as.

Jerry Wang: CHINAPLAS has witnessed our hardship over the three years due to the pandemic, and our efforts in moving forward. This year, FCS has invested considerably in the exhibition in Shenzhen, in order to reconnect with the global companies and gain new business opportunities. At CHINAPLAS, we will not only meet buyers that are eager to seek solutions, but also excellent competitors for competition. We embrace the challenges and believe that the more competent ones will seize more opportunities.
Apart from the three development trends mentioned above and the abundant products that FCS will bring to the exhibition, we hope that CHINAPLAS 2023 may bring unexpected new demands and hot spots, so that it will keep pace with the current market, but also be the first to trigger the new trend.
